Undergraduate Academies Questionnaire

Thank you for your interest in the Undergraduate Academies! Please help us learn more about you, including why and how you are interested in participating, by completing the Undergraduate Academies Student Questionnaire. Responses to the questions will be considered for placement in the academy seminars and residential community. Completing this questionnaire should take you no longer than 15 minutes. Please note, applications for participation in the Undergraduate Academies are reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in mid-November and students will be notified beginning early December.

Program Eligibility: The Undergraduate Academies welcomes applications from UB undergraduate students from all academic majors.

Listed below are various components of academy life. Noted is the amount of time you might anticipate devoting to these activities should you choose to participate. Please help us to understand your level of commitment by checking below the features that interest you (please select all that apply). Students may select their individual level of involvement in an Undergraduate Academy experience.
Undergraduate Academies Partner
Academy Partners make a more substantial time commitment (than Associates) by engaging in a seminar and/or living in a residential community. Academy Associates make a more limited time commitment to participating only in academy events—not seminar or academy community housing (please check all that apply).
The Undergraduate Academies seminar will introduce you to the Academies learning community. Through a series of curricular and co-curricular experiences, you will have the opportunity to engage with each of the focus areas of the three academies: Civic Engagement, Global Perspectives, and Research Exploration. You and your peers will engage in meaningful discussion with faculty subject matter experts, students, and staff with common interests. See our Spring 2010 Academies Seminars (PDF).

As a member of the Undergraduate Academies, you will have an opportunity to investigate a variety of weekly topics that highlight the three focus areas. For example, would you like to explore why the election of President Obama was welcomed so widely outside the United States? Have you ever considered how social media, such as Facebook, can create new communities and influence social movements? Have you considered how green farming and the organic food industry impact the environment and your health? Or have you ever thought how new or unknown infectious diseases could spread around the globe potentially in a day, killing hundreds of millions?
Academy events and activities include: guest speakers, workshops, excursions, film series, or dinners with UB faculty and staff. Please expect approximately a 10 hour commitment per semester.

**Undergraduate Academies Associate defined as participation in Academy-sponsored events and activities only (i.e. speakers, workshops, excursions, film series, etc.).
