UB Undergraduate Academies
UB’s undergraduate academies are scholarly communities composed of students, faculty, and staff that share a common mission, goals, and interests. Participating in an undergraduate academy will enable you to focus on one of UB’s strengths by engaging in a unique curricular and co-curricular experience.
You will be involved in theme-based seminar courses, lectures, and projects under the direction of academy faculty academic directors. In addition, you will be introduced to tailored workshops and relevant university and community clubs and organizations, which will enhance your academic work. You may also have the opportunity to live on an academy-specific residence hall floor, allowing for a continuous living and learning experience.
Specifically, you will be involved in a unique undergraduate experience that will allow you:
- To develop closer relationships with faculty, staff, and students
- To enhance your involvement in university life
- To develop a meaningful connection between academic concepts and out-of-class activities
- To enhance your personal and intellectual growth
- The possibility of a special notation in your official University transcript
- The opportunity to network and develop valuable career and graduate school references
For the 2008-2009 academic year students can participate in one of three different academies: Research Exploration, Civic Engagement, and Global Perspectives. The three academies offer a variety of thought-provoking and engaging academic and social activities. If you plan to be a UB student in the future, The Three Academies section will provide you with details about how to get involved for the fall 2008 semester. If you are a current UB student explore our website and feel free to contact our office about participating in one of the academies.
